This exam is held to select university teachers and researchers in Turkey, those who want to study for a master’s and doctoral degree in Turkey, and master’s students to be sent abroad from Turkey.

Both Turkish and foreign citizens who want to earn master’s and doctoral degrees in higher education in Turkey must take this exam as soon as possible. Most non-partitioned sections do not require ALES. The exam is open to bachelors, masters and final year students.

The exam is conducted by test method: consists of 2 accurate and 2 humanitarian sections.

Numerical (Exact Sciences) – 40 questions each in Tests 1 and 2, and 40 questions each in Verbal (Humanitarian) Tests 1 and 2. A total of 160 questions are answered. The numerical section consists of mathematics (algebra + geometry) and mathematical logic questions, the verbal section consists of Turkish language and humanitarian (verbal) logic questions.
